This trip will give you the opportunity to spend several days in Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city and home to unique art and cultural experiences. In Anchorage, you will visit museums that highlight the area’s rich culture and will have the opportunity to meet with artists you may know from Indian Market or the Eiteljorg’s Contemporary Art Fellowship.

Wildlife watching is a highlight of this trip: Watch for bear, moose, caribou, mountain goats, whales, sea lions, sea otters, bald eagles, osprey, puffins, and hundreds of other bird species, especially in coastal regions.

This Alaskan land adventure tour is a great introduction to the state’s national parks and most popular wildlife!

You will visit Denali National Park, where you can see North America’s tallest peak, the 20,000 Denali (formerly Mount McKinley), with time for complimentary activities or optional tours. Ride in a deluxe dome railcar and take a one-day cruise to Kenai Fjords National Park, where nearly 40 glaciers flow from the Harding Icefield.

Denali National Park

The towering granite spires and snowy summits of Denali National Park and Preserve straddles 160 miles of the Alaska Range and display so much elevation they are often lost in the clouds. Dominating this skyline is North America’s highest peak; Mt. Denali ascends majestically to 20,310 feet and is one of the most awe-inspiring sights in Alaska.

Kenai Fjords National Park

Just to the west of Seward, Kenai Fjords National covers an area of 669,984 acres on the Kenai Peninsula in south-central Alaska, near the town of Seward. Home to the Harding Icefield, one of the largest ice fields in the United States, the park is named for the numerous fjords carved by glaciers moving down the mountains from the ice field. The field is the source of at least 38 glaciers, the largest of which is Bear Glacier. The fjords are glacial valleys that have been submerged below sea level by a combination of rising sea levels and land subsidence.

Anchorage, Alaska

Anchorage is a city where you can see the northern lights—the aurora borealis—on a clear dark night, typically during colder months. Approximately 40 percent of Alaska’s population lives in Anchorage. This diverse city of 300,000 includes a large military population, Native Alaskans, individuals who work for the oil industry and adventure-seeking types who want to get away from “the Lower 48.” Much like Seattle, Anchorage is a place where you can find a coffee shop (or espresso shack) anywhere. Locals enjoy skijoring, a winter sport where a person is pulled on skis by one or more dogs or sometimes a horse. While some cities have deer, Anchorage has lots of moose, known for being a bit rambunctious (and should be steered clear of if seen wandering down a street).

DAY 1
ARRIVAL / ANCHORAGE

Arrive into Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city. Upon arrival into Anchorage you will be met by your local Tour Director, and transfer to your local hotel. Dinner will be included this evening. Overnight in Anchorage.

DAY 2
LAKE HOOD / EARTHQUAKE PARK

Sunday, August 2, 2020

Breakfast will be included this morning. Today, enjoy a local city tour of Anchorage featuring Lake hood where 190+ floatplanes takeoff and land daily, Earthquake Park to learn about the 1964 Earthquake, the Historic Downtown Area, as well as a private tour of the Anchorage Museum to learn about the history and culture of Alaska. Dinner will be included this evening. Overnight in Anchorage.

DAY 3
GLACIER AND WILDLIFE CRUISE

Monday, August 3, 2020

Breakfast will be included this morning. You will then board your deluxe motorcoach for a scenic transfer south to the coastal community of Seward. Upon arrival, board a glacier and wildlife cruise and travel through the majestic Kenai Fjords National Park. Explore the face of a glacier and keep your eyes open for seals, sea lions, sea otters, whales, walrus, bears, eagles, and puffins throughout this half-day exploration cruise. Lunch is included on board. Dinner will be included in Seward upon return. Later, board your deluxe motorcoach and return to Anchorage. Overnight in Anchorage.

DAY 4
OPTIONAL TOURS / EXPLORING

Breakfast will be included this morning. Today you will enjoy visits to local cultural institutions, including the Alaska Native Heritage Center, and meetings with artists (final schedule pending based on artists’ availability). Local transfers included. Dinner will be included this evening. Overnight in Anchorage.

DAY 5
DENALI NATIONAL PARK / IDITAROD HEADQUARTERS

Wednesday, August 5, 2020

Breakfast will be included this morning. You will then board your deluxe motorcoach for a scenic transfer north to Denali National Park. En route, enjoy an included visit to the Iditarod Headquarters to learn about The Last Great Race. Continue to Denali arriving in the early afternoon. This afternoon, choose between a moderate walk with a naturalist guide, or an exciting photo workshop. Dinner will be included this evening. Overnight in Denali.

DAY 6
TUNDRA WILDERNESS TOUR / DENALI OVERNIGHT

Breakfast will be included this morning. This morning travel deep into Denali National Park on the Tundra Wilderness Tour and search the vast wilderness for bear, moose, caribou, and Dall sheep. This six to eight-hour journey is narrated allowing for insight into the animals, flora and fauna of this spectacular region. A box lunch is included on board. This afternoon, enjoy a scenic float along the Nenana River. Overnight in Denali.

DAY 7
DENALI RAIL DEPOT/ ANCHORAGE

Breakfast will be included this morning. You will have time to explore on own this morning. Later, transfer to the Denali Rail Depot where you will board a deluxe dome railcar for a scenic train ride south to Anchorage. Dinner will be included on board. Overnight in Anchorage.

DAY 8
AIRPORT / DEPARTURE

Breakfast will be included this morning. It will then be time to say goodbye to your local Tour Director as you are transferred to the Anchorage Airport for your flight.

In the event this does not occur, hotel space will be released, and this contract will be considered void. Should the group size fall below 16 paid attendees, all prices are subject to change.
